Inside: Use these bee kindness resources to teach social emotional learning during spring months and encourage more kindness to others.
On a gorgeous spring day, I decided to get some fresh air into my classroom so we opened the door to the outside and let the breeze blow in. But with it came a bee. And all of my students were terrified.
I can’t lie. I’m pretty terrified of bees and bee stings.
But I had to remain the calm one. So I turned off the lights, reminded my kids bees were amazing pollinators looking for flowers and it would leave us alone if we left it alone.
And of course, the bee flew out and went on it’s way to find it’s next flower.
Bees truly are amazing creatures, even if I get worried to be around them. And since we’re short on pollinators, we need to get everyone on board to save the bees.
Spring is the perfect time to help kids not only learn about and appreciate bees but also to sneak in some social emotional learning at the same time.
To do that, we use our Bee Kindness Resources to make learning hands-on and cross-curricular.

- Kindness Bees Kind Or Unkind Sort
- Kindness Bees Craft and Creative Writing
- Bee Craft: Bee Kind, Bee Sweet, Bee Yourself
How to Use the Bee Kindness Bundle:
1. Purchase and print out the bee kindness resources you wish to use. You can use these to connect to your bee unit, your insect unit or for your spring unit.
2. For the Bee Kind or Unkind Sort, print out the bee cards and hives in color or in black and white. If you use black and white, color the bees.
Students can sort the bees with clip art during centers in a small group or use during your Morning Meeting as a discussion or group game.
3. Follow up with the worksheet so students can show what they know about kind and unkind behaviors.
4. Connect this to writing with one of the two writing sheets that comes with this resource.
5. For the Bee Kind Craft and Write, students can create bee kind art with small or large bees. They can brainstorm and then write ways to be bee kind more often to classmates, friends, teachers, and family members.
6. Then display the bee craft and writes in your classroom or hallway and encourage kids to share what their writing says to connect to listening and speaking skills.
7. Kids can then make the Bee Kind, Bee Yourself, Bee Sweet Craft to encourage fine motor skills and celebrate the pollinators or to celebrate all the ways they can be kind during spring.
If they need ideas on how to be kind to others during spring, use our Spring Kindness Challenge or Spring Kindness Bucketlist!
