Inside: This Classroom Birthday Book is perfect for classrooms to celebrate students in special ways that showcase kindness.
I was always the kid with the summer birthday and always felt like I got the short end of the stick.
Because while no one really wants to be in school on their actual birthday, there is something super special to being celebrated in your classroom with your classmates…the crown, the birthday pencil, being sung to, bringing in treats, and maybe getting your name announced on the loud speaker.
So my first year teaching, all of the summer birthday kiddos picked a random day in June that was their school birthday date and they got celebrated. I made them a crown, they brought in their cupcakes to share with everyone and they got a birthday book made by their classmates.
So even though by the end of June everyone was pretty much tired of cupcakes, we were able to properly celebrate each kiddo at school and made them feel special. You can also use this birthday scavenger hunt to make birthdays feel more special.
You can use this freebie printable for each of your students’ birthdays that celebrate their birthday, focus on kindness and lets students practice their letter writing skills all at the same time.
And if we can tie in kindness and writing as we celebrate a birthday, then it’s a triple win.
Other Ways to Connect With Students
Connecting with students is essential if we’re creating trust, respect, and getting them to feel safe in your classroom community because students will not learn unless they feel connected to us.
